Imagine earning $500 or more from a single sale — without managing inventory or shipping products yourself. That’s the power of high ticket dropshipping.
With just a few sales each week, you could build a highly profitable business with fewer customers and less stress.
In this article, you’ll find a list of high-ticket products ideal for dropshipping in Australia, including typical price ranges and insights into market demand. Whether you’re just getting started or looking to scale with premium products, this guide will help you identify items with strong profit potential within Australia.
How Much Is Considered a High Ticket Item?
The term “high ticket” refers to any product sold at a higher price point — typically $200 or more.
While there’s no strict upper limit (houses and cars are technically high ticket too), in the context of dropshipping, most sellers define high ticket items as products priced from $200 to well over $1,000.
You may have seen some YouTubers refer to $50+ products as “high ticket,” but this usually applies to AliExpress-style dropshipping, where the average product is under $20. In that space, $50 feels premium, but in real high-ticket dropshipping, we’re talking about serious, high-ticket purchases.
Should You Dropship High-Ticket Products from AliExpress?
While AliExpress can work for low-cost, impulse-buy products, it’s not suitable for high ticket items. Long shipping times, inconsistent product quality, and poor communication make it a risky choice, especially when customers are spending hundreds of dollars.
High ticket dropshipping works best when you’re sourcing from domestic suppliers, such as those based in Australia. When customers are making a large purchase, they expect:
- Fast and reliable shipping
- High-quality products
- Responsive customer service
- A smooth, trustworthy buying experience
These are things AliExpress simply can’t deliver at the level required for premium purchases.
If you want to sell high ticket items successfully, your best move is to work with Australian-based suppliers who can provide a better experience and faster delivery, which also increases trust and reduces refund risk.
What You Should Look for in High-Ticket Items?
Let’s be real, you want to sell high-ticket items that actually make you money, not just look impressive on paper. That doesn’t mean you should aim for the most expensive products possible.
There’s no point listing a $20,000 item if no one is buying it. But if there’s demand and your supplier can fulfill it reliably? Go for it.
The best high ticket items to dropship are products that strike a balance between:
- Strong demand
- Manageable shipping costs
- A price point that allows for at least a 25% profit margin after expenses, but usually the higher the item cost, the lower the profit margin.
High Ticket vs Low Ticket Dropshipping
Dropshipping high ticket products is a completely different game compared to low-ticket models.
- Low ticket dropshipping often targets impulse buyers scrolling Facebook or TikTok. These products need to be trendy, quirky, or “wow factor” items that grab attention fast.
- High ticket dropshipping, on the other hand, focuses on purchase intent. You’re typically using Google Ads or SEO to appear in front of people who are already searching for the product — they’re further down the buying funnel.
So while it’s still helpful to sell products that are unique or eye-catching, that’s not essential. You can absolutely sell ordinary, practical items, as long as they solve a problem, are priced right, and have consistent demand.
High Ticket Dropshipping Product Criteria
Here are some ideal characteristics to look for (not all are essential, but the more, the better):
- ✅ In-demand year-round (not just seasonal)
- ✅ Priced over $500 (ideally between $500–$2,000)
- ✅ Reasonable size and weight (to keep shipping affordable)
- ✅ Low return rate and minimal warranty issues
- ✅ Compatible with Google Shopping Ads (clear search intent)
- ✅ Available from domestic suppliers (for fast, trustworthy delivery)
- ✅ Potential for product bundles, accessories, or upsells
Even if your product doesn’t tick every box, that’s okay. The key is to start with something profitable, searchable, and shippable, then refine your offer from there.
Size and Weight Matter
Can you sell the item and ship it to your customer whilst still maintaining a healthy profit margin? In the perfect world, the item would be small and lightweight, however, many high ticket items are on the larger and heavier side.
The country you’re selling to will dictate whether you can ship oversized products. Some countries have far better shipping options and infrastructure making them a more viable option. You may need to use a freight broker to organize the best freight option for you.
The advantage of dropshipping large products is you generally have far less competition online.
Healthy Profit Margins
As a general rule, a profit margin of 30% after advertising, shipping and any other expenses is the goal with high ticket items. This will obviously vary depending on several factors. If you are selling a $15,000 product, a 30% profit margin may not be a realistic option.
If the product can’t be sold at a price point where it’s making a decent profit margin it may not be worth pursuing.
Which products aren’t able to be sold at a high price point? I’ll give you an example.
If you work with a supplier who accepts everyone as a reseller of their products and does not enforce MAP (Minimum advertised pricing) it will be extremely difficult to make any significant profit. You will end up with an abundance of competition and because of no MAP, it will cause every seller to simply undercut each other.
Ideally, you want to work with suppliers who enforce MAP and put their sellers through a screening process before accepting them.
Personalized or In-Person Items: Are They Suitable for Dropshipping?
Online shopping isn’t the same experience as buying in person, and for some product categories, that difference matters more.
Take a fire pit, for example. As long as the customer can see clear images and read the specifications, they can confidently purchase it online. But for more personal items like sofas, mattresses, or bedding, it’s a different story.
People want to feel the fabric, test the comfort, and see the item in person before committing, especially if it’s a high-ticket purchase.
These types of products can still sell online, but they often have higher return rates, lower conversion rates, and require more customer support. When deciding on high-ticket products to dropship, always consider the importance of in-person interaction in the buying process.
Can the Product Be Purchased Locally?
You may have heard the advice:
“If you can buy it at your local shopping centre, you probably can’t dropship it.”
This is generally true for low-ticket products, where the competition is fierce and convenience wins. But when it comes to high-ticket items, this advice is only partially accurate.
Let’s say you want to dropship outdoor kitchens, a fairly standard household item. Most customers will have access to a local store that sells a few models.
But those physical stores usually only carry a limited selection, maybe 5 to 10 options, due to space and cost constraints.
As a dropshipper, you can offer:
- Dozens (or hundreds) of variations from multiple suppliers
- A broader range of features, styles, and price points
- Direct shipping to the customer’s home — even if they live rurally
While traditional retailers might pay less wholesale, you’re not burdened with:
- Retail space rent
- Staff wages
- Inventory costs
This allows you to stay competitive while offering greater selection and convenience, two major advantages in the eCommerce world.
Does the Item Have Strong Brand Loyalty?
Before choosing a high ticket product to dropship, consider whether consumers are loyal to a specific brand in that category.
Some products are dominated by big-name brands that buyers already know and trust, and they often won’t consider alternatives. Think about items like:
- Smartphones
- Fridges
- Headphones
- Gaming consoles
- Cameras
Consumers in these markets are typically brand-driven. They’ll search for Apple, Samsung, Bose, or Sony, not generic alternatives. And in many cases, these large brands don’t allow dropshipping, or they only work with authorized retailers.
Even if you could get approved, you’d likely be competing with major retailers offering:
- Lower prices
- Faster shipping
- Bigger ad budgets
It’s an uphill battle.
Now, think about how many TV brands you can name. Probably several. Now, think about how many office chair brands come to mind. Fewer, right?
This is your opportunity, in categories without strong brand dominance, you can introduce quality products from smaller or niche suppliers and still win trust.
Is the Item in Demand?
Even if a product seems high quality and profitable, it won’t sell if nobody wants it.
Start by using Google Trends to check interest in your product over time:
- Type in the product name + your target country (e.g. “massage chairs Australia”)
- View the past 5 years of data to see whether the interest is rising, steady, or declining
If the trend line is dropping like it has for “paintball”, it might not be a great product to build a business around.
Next: Check Search Volume
Use a keyword research tool like KeySearch to see how many people are actually searching for your product each month.
- Check the exact keyword (e.g. “massage chairs”)
- Check variations (e.g. “electric recliner chair,” “zero gravity massage chair”)
- Remember, not all searches are buyer intent — some people are just browsing or researching
Use different angles to find what your ideal customer is typing into Google.
